FLACS MS Lobby | 'Unity in Diversity'

Inspired by the words of FLACS' founder Reverend Rivera: “You can be light…you can be a catalyst for change. You can be an instrument of liberation in a situation of captivity,” 'Unity in Diversity' is a metaphorical representation of his vision for FLACS’ growth from its inception to the current time.

Referencing the Caribbean roots of not only FLACS’ own catalyst for change Rev. Rivera, but also of the surrounding community, this mural is rich with nature-themed symbolism that expresses the concept of unity without uniformity and diversity without fragmentation. Just as the symbiotic relationships in nature help its inhabitants to grow, students (and on a broader scale, communities) must also find ways to co-exist and work together in unity for the good of the whole. The mural’s design seeks to be inclusive of all students by representing their diversity through nature rather than direct portraiture.
