This mural is part of the Arecibo es 500 Mural Project organized by Fenando Marquez to commemorate the 500 year anniversary of the incorporation of Arecibo, Puerto Rico. The project was also intended to create a visual resistance to the United States Department of Agriculture’s Rural Utilities Service's proposal to fund a waste incinerator in Arecibo.
